The Hunrath Tree puzzle is a puzzle in Obduction that grants access to the Tree in Hunrath and restores its health.
Prerequisites[]
The Tower elevator puzzle must be completed first. After that, the puzzle consists of three main parts.
Water Tower[]
As soon as the Red beam has been disabled and cell wall portals are enabled, C.W. talks about the Tree and that it must be healthy. He also explains about having to get down below the Tree, to the Heart, and connect it all back up. From early on in the game, the player sees the Water tower by the Tree, a tube for water going from the tower to the Tree, and a wooden walkway leading to the tower spigot. Obviously, the water supply has to be turned on.
Go up to C.W.'s workshop, and follow the rail tracks towards the Tree. Turn left on the wooden walkway towards the Water Tower. Turn the lever down (water drops will be seen dripping) to restore the water supply towards the Tree. Later on, when access to the Heart has been enabled, it is discovered that this water supply splits in four and apart from the Hunrath Tree, also supplies water to the other three Trees.
Tower Basement[]
After having solved the Tower elevator puzzle, use the elevator to descend to the Tower basement. Explore the basement. Walk towards the phonograph which can be wound to play a record. Turn right around the corner, and walk up the steps. Turn the handle of the door-lowering mechanism clockwise to lower the door that blocks access to the Tree.
The Heart[]
Go one level up to the Mayor's office, open the door that leads to the Tree, enter the area and go around the Tree to find the entrance down its roots. Descend into the Heart and restore the Tree's health by turning the knob on the fire hydrant clockwise, allowing the Tree to be watered. As soon as the water reaches the top of the cavity, the roots will glow yellow/orange, the voltage of the indicator will start rising and upon going back up the folliage of the (now glowing) Tree will be seen turning gradually to green.
